ACCESSIBLE WORLD PRESENTS A JOURNEY THROUGH HISTORY REVIEWING “LETTERS FROM NUREMBERG” Hosted on Tuesday, February 07, 2012 |
We reviewed “letters from Nuremberg” by Senator Christopher J. Dodd. The book is based on the daily letters from his Father, Thomas Dodd, to his wife Grace during his eighteen month appointment as number two prosecutor to the Nuremberg Trials in 1945-1946. The letters had lain, undiscovered until 1990. The book goes beyond being a series of charming love letters or an attempt at damage control for his family’s humiliation over Senator Thomas Dodd’s career-ending censure by the U.S. Senate in 1967. |

ACCESSIBLE WORLD PRESENTS A JOURNEY THROUGH HISTORY - AGINCOURT” BY BERNARD CORNWELL Hosted on Tuesday, June 07, 2011 |
On May 3rd, The History Group reviewed “coal: A Human History” by Barbara Freese (DB58009). Everyone seemed to like the book, especially the author’s presentation of the historical background of coal and how it was indispensible in the development of modern civilization as well as coal’s present threat to humanity. Nobody seemed to agree with ex-coal CEO, Don Blankenship’s speech denying Global Warming. The song “Black Water” which everyone liked is part of an album called “music of Coal” and can be found on the internet or Amazon or of course in the Accessible World Archives. |

"THE FIRST WORLD WAR" to be discussed on ACCESSIBLE World’s A JOURNEY THROUGH HISTORY Hosted on Tuesday, February 01, 2011 |
On February first we will be listening to the author, John Keegan and discussing his bestselling book. The First World War was the defining event that shaped the twentieth century. It ended Europe’s Age of Enlightenment. It ended faith in rationalism and of Liberalism. It sent Europe careening from the road to Democracy into an abyss of Fascist and Marxist Totalitarianism. It left a legacy of mechanized warfare, mass death and genocide. |
