Newswire
Mark your calendar now for Tuesday, December 1, 9 PM Eastern/6 PM
Pacific for our next book discussion at AccessibleWorld.org’s Let’s Read
Historical Novels.
Since many of us will be occupied with holiday activities in December,
we chose The Collected Stories of Isaac Bashevis Singer so that even if
you can’t read the whole book, you can read the stories you want and
report back to the group. Singer won a Nobel Prize for Literature for
his work depicting jewish life both in Eastern Europe and the Americas.
Among the forty-seven stories in this collection, all selected by Singer
himself, is a tale of pious but tormented hassiddim, isolated
intellectuals in New York, fanciful tales of demons, and realistic
stories of human frailty.
Besides the print edition this novel is available in these accessible
formats:
National Library Service, on cassette and in Braille
BookShare.org
There are print copies in English, French and Yiddish.
We have books scheduled through June 2010. You can find them listed at
http://histnov.blogspot.com. That is where you can find further details
on the formats above as well.
