"THE FIRST WORLD WAR" to be discussed on ACCESSIBLE World’s A JOURNEY THROUGH HISTORY

On February first we will be listening to the author, John Keegan and discussing his bestselling book.

The First World War was the defining event that shaped the twentieth century. It ended Europe’s Age of Enlightenment. It ended faith in rationalism and of Liberalism. It sent Europe careening from the road to Democracy into an abyss of Fascist and Marxist Totalitarianism. It left a legacy of mechanized warfare, mass death and genocide.

The History Group has read books such as Margaret Macmillan’s “Paris 1919,” Patrick Buchanan’s “the Unnecessary War” and “THE GREAT INFLUENZA “ by John M. Barry which focused on individual causes and effects of World War I, but John Keegan, preeminent, military Historian, bestseller “The First World War” provides a panoramic if challenging history of the events which shaped the rest of the 20th century.

Professor of Military History at Sandhurst Military Academy, Britain’s West Point, John Keegan has written over thirteen books on military history and handles the vast array of data quite well.
